Candle Safety Tips

The following guideline is here to help you practice the basic safety rules of burning a candle, and to ensure you are getting the most out of your experience.

  • Trim the wick to 1/4 of an inch before each burn. If the flame is too high or producing soot, put out, trim, and relight.

  • Allow your candle to burn long enough for the melt pool to reach the edges of the jar to avoid tunneling.

  • Burn your candle on an even, heat-resistant surface away from drafts and flammable objects.

  • Keep burning candles away from all liquids. Never extinguish a flame with water.

  • Use gentle breath or replace the candle lid to extinguish your candle.

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep candles out of reach from children and pets.

We want you to enjoy your experience in the safest way. Please remember to always use caution and follow basic safety practice when burning a candle. If at any time you feel unsafe or unsure, extinguish your candle and do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your candles made out of?

We generally use wooden wicks and a soy-paraffin wax blend for our container candles. Our scent blends are made with paraben-free and phthalate-free fragrance oils. We have found this combination allows us to deliver a clean burn with a strong scent without any unnecessary chemical additives found in other candles.

Why is black smoke coming out of my candle?

You need to trim your wick down before every burn. We generally say 1/4 of a inch is good. However, if you feel you have trimmed your wick, and it is still smoking, simply trim a little more off. This will help prevent soot from building up on the wick and sides of the jar, leaving you with a safer and longer-lasting candle.

Why is my candle changing colors?

The natural soy in our wax blend can tint to a yellow-ish hue as it burns. Some of our fragrances contain vanillin, which can cause a brown-ish hue to the wax. A little natural soot from the wick can cause a gray-ish hue to the wax. None of these color changes are unsafe, nor will they alter the burn of your candle.

Why could I smell the candle at first, but now I can't?

Nose-blindness is a thing! If you have grown too accustomed to the scent of your candle, you can step away from the area for some fresh air and see if that helps. However, we suggest using it as an excuse to buy more scents to switch things up instead!
